About Demetri Martin
Stand up comedian, writer, actor, Microsoft guy.
There is a lot to know about Demetri Martin. The thing is, I'm way too lazy to go into detail about all of it. So instead, I've decided to give you basically a History Of Demetri in its fastest, simplest, easiest and clearest form. Detail and explanation is for losers. This is all about facts. Let's begin...
Demetri Martin: The Person
- First and foremost, the dude's name is spelled Demetri Martin. It's not Demitri. It's not Dimitri. It's not Dimetri. It's D-E-M-E-T-R-I.
- He was born on May 25, 1973. So now when people think he's 23, you'll know that these people are stupid.
- He's from New Jersey.
- He lives in New York.
- He's Greek.
- His father was a Greek Orthodox priest. In addition, his parents owned a Greek restaurant. Demetri worked there at some point. In between doing whatever work he did there, he did word puzzles and wrote palindromes.
- He skateboards on a regular basis around New York.
- He attended Yale University and NYU School of Law on a full scholarship.
- He dropped out of law school to become a comedian. I have never read one single interview with or article about Demetri Martin that did not mention the fact that he dropped out of law school to become a comedian. It is literally never NOT mentioned. Why? I don't know.
- Demetri enjoys puzzles and puzzle books more than the average person.
- He also enjoys writing palindromes. (Read one here)

- They are no longer married.

Demetri Martin: The Stand Up Comedian
- Demetri would pass by comedy clubs on the way to law school. He'd always think about trying it.
- Eventually he did, and he liked it. He then dropped out of law school to become a comedian.
- Demetri Martin is often compared to two other comedians, Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright. I'm a fan of all three. While they all have very different styles (no one "rips" anyone off), they all do write short jokes about every day things.
- Demetri was always a Steven Wright fan.
- If my memory serves me right, Demetri was asked about Mitch Hedberg in an interview and seemed to like him as well.
- He has performed in comedy clubs around the country, and at other comedy events/festivals around the world.
- In 2003, he won the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for his one man show, "If I."
- Don't worry, no one else in America knows what it is either. However, in the rest of the world, it is quite a big deal to win.
- Demetri has performed 4 one man shows... "If I" - "Spiral Bound" - "These Are Jokes" - "Dr. Earnest Parrot Presents Demetri Martin"
- Demetri often plays an instrument (usually the guitar) while telling his jokes.
- He has also incorporated other interesting joke telling methods into his act.
- He's used a projector.
- He's used recorded music.
- He's used a recording of himself telling jokes.
- He's used a large pad of drawings.
- He's used animation.
